KNOWING THE SON

The beginning

DA 51 The dedication of the first-born had its origin in the earliest times. God had promised to give the First-born of heaven to save the sinner.

Dedication = to devote oneself wholeheartedly or unreservedly to a particular purpose or cause.

PP 34 The Sovereign of the universe was not alone in His work of beneficence. He had an associate--a co-worker who could appreciate His purposes, and could share His joy in giving happiness to created beings.)

Dedicated to - beneficence = the act of doing good, kindness.

JN 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

MIC 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. (margin = from the days of eternity)

4163 mowtsa ah { mo-tsaw-aw’} = whose goings forth
1)     origin, place of going out from
1a)   origin

Is Mic 5:2 speaking of a point in eternity?
PRO 8:22-27 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. 23I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. 24When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. 27When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

PRO 8:30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

one brought up

1) artificer, architect, master workman, skilled workman

COL 1:15-17 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

HEB 1:4,5 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

JER 17:12 A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.

REV 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
ONE WITH THE FATHER

JN 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

JN 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. (meizon-3185-3187-older)

PHI 2:5-6 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

PP 36 Before the assembled inhabitants of heaven the King declared that none but Christ, the Only Begotten of God, could fully enter into His purposes, and to Him it was committed to execute the mighty counsels of His will.

MH 421 The Scriptures clearly indicate the relation between God and Christ, and they bring to view as clearly the personality and individuality of each.

MH 422 The unity that exists between Christ and His disciples does not destroy the personality of either. They are one in purpose, in mind, in character, but not in person. It is thus that God and Christ are one.

Summary,
Jesus was the firstborn of Heaven,
Jesus was dedicated to works of beneficence,
Jesus was in the beginning, before all creation,
Jesus was from of old , from the days of eternity.
In the beginning Jesus was possessed by His Father,
Jesus was daily the delight of His Father,
All creation was by Jesus, through the will of His Father,

REBELLION

1SP 22 All the heavenly host were summoned to appear before the Father, to have each case determined. Satan unblushingly made known his dissatisfaction that Christ should be preferred before him. He stood up proudly and urged that he should be equal with God, and should be taken into conference with the Father and understand his purposes. God informed Satan that to His Son alone He would reveal his secret purposes, and He required all the family in Heaven, even Satan, to yield Him implicit, unquestioned obedience; but that he (Satan) had proved himself unworthy of a place in Heaven. Then Satan exultingly pointed to his sympathizers, comprising nearly one half of all the angels, and exclaimed, These are with me! Will you expel these also, and make such a void in Heaven?

War

REV 12:7-9 And there was war in heaven: Michael and His angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

The character of Jesus contrasted
with the character of Satan

DA 25 In stooping to take upon Himself humanity, Christ revealed a character the opposite of the character of Satan. But He stepped still lower in the path of humiliation. "Being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." Phil. 2:8. As the high priest laid aside his gorgeous pontifical robes, and officiated in the white linen dress of the common priest, so Christ took the form of a servant, and offered sacrifice, Himself the priest, Himself the victim. "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him." Isa. 53:5.

SR 42 (The Plan of Salvation) Sorrow filled heaven, as it was realized that man was lost and that world which God had created was to be filled with mortals doomed to misery, sickness, and death, and there was no way of escape for the offender. The whole family of Adam must die. I saw the lovely Jesus and beheld an expression of sympathy and sorrow upon His countenance. Soon I saw Him approach the exceeding bright light which enshrouded the Father. Said my accompanying angel, He is in close converse with His Father. The anxiety of the angels seemed to be intense while Jesus was communing with His Father. Three times He was shut in by the glorious light about the Father, and the third time He came out from the Father, His person could be seen. His countenance was calm, free from all perplexity and doubt, and shone with benevolence and loveliness, such as words cannot express. He then made known to the angelic host that a way of escape had been made for lost man. He told them that He had been pleading with His Father, and had offered to give His life a ransom, to take the sentence of death upon Himself, that through Him man might find pardon; that through the merits of His blood, and obedience to the law of God, they could have the favor of God and be brought into the beautiful garden and eat of the fruit of the tree of life.

At first the angels could not rejoice, for their Commander concealed nothing from them, but opened before them the plan of salvation. Jesus told them that He would stand between the wrath of His Father and guilty man, that He would bear iniquity and scorn, and but few would receive Him as the Son of God. Nearly all would hate and reject Him. He would leave all His glory in heaven, appear upon earth as a man, humble Himself as a man, become acquainted by His own experience with the various temptations with which man would be beset, that He might know how to succor those who should be tempted; and that finally, after His mission as a teacher would be accomplished, He would be delivered into the hands of men and endure almost every cruelty and suffering that Satan and his angels could inspire wicked men to inflict; that He would die the cruelest of deaths, hung up between the heavens and the earth as a guilty sinner; that He would suffer dreadful hours of agony, which even angels could not look upon, but would veil their faces from the sight. Not merely agony of body would He suffer, but mental agony, that with which bodily suffering could in no wise be compared. The weight of the sins of the whole world would be upon Him. He told them He would die and rise again the third day, and would ascend to His Father to intercede for wayward, guilty man.

THE FATHER SENT THE SON

1JN 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

JN 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

JN 5:3 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

JN 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

JN 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

JN 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

JN 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received [them], and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

1JN 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

JN 6:39,44,57 JN 8:16,29 JN12:49 JN 20:21

1888 ch12:144 What does that say to us? "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." It says to you, I, God, have sent My Son into your world, and through Him is opened all heaven to fallen man.

RH July 9 1895 The Eternal Father, the unchangeable One, gave His only begotten Son, tore from his bosom Him who was made in the express image of His person, and sent Him down to earth to reveal how greatly He loved mankind.

THE SON ON EARTH

MAT 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Jesus more than proved His love for us at Calvary, but next we see how His sprit of love was manifested to mankind, when He was in the flesh.

SC 77 Our Saviour's joy was in the uplifting and redemption of fallen men. For this He counted not His life dear unto Himself, but endured the cross, despising the shame. So angels are ever engaged in working for the happiness of others. This is their joy. That which selfish hearts would regard as humiliating service, ministering to those who are wretched and in every way inferior in character and rank, is the work of sinless angels. The spirit of Christ's self-sacrificing love is the spirit that pervades heaven and is the very essence of its bliss. This is the spirit that Christ's followers will possess, the work that they will do.
The Saviour's life on earth was not a life of ease and devotion to Himself, but He toiled with persistent, earnest, untiring effort for the salvation of lost mankind. From the manger to Calvary He followed the path of self-denial and sought not to be released from arduous tasks, painful travels and exhausting care and labor. He said, "The Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28. This was the one great object of His life. Everything else was secondary and subservient. It was His meat and drink to do the will of God and to finish His work. Self and self-interest had no part in His labor.

DA 25 It was Satan's purpose to bring about an eternal separation between God and man; but in Christ we become more closely united to God than if we had never fallen. In taking our nature, the Saviour has bound Himself to humanity by a tie that is never to be broken. Through the eternal ages He is linked with us. "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son." John 3:16. He gave Him not only to bear our sins, and to die as our sacrifice; He gave Him to the fallen race. To assure us of His immutable counsel of peace, God gave His only-begotten Son to become one of the human family, forever to retain His human nature. This is the pledge that God will fulfill His word. "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder." God has adopted human nature in the person of His Son, and has carried the same into the highest heaven.

DA 25 Now Jesus shows us that He is true and loving, by offering Himself,
JN 3:16 The Father sends Jesus down to earth, to redeem fallen man,
SC 77 Jesus shows us how to live and how we are to overcome the world,

1 JN 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

1JN 4:14-15 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

1 JN 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

Are there any Christian denominations that don’t believe Jesus is the Son of God? Not many.
There must be over 100 accounts in the Bible stating the Son of God or similar. There are 4442 hits in the Spirit of Prophecy directly saying the Son of God. Are these for a reason?
So why are the Bible and S.O.P. so adamant that we believe that Jesus is the Son of God?

1 JN 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God

But what does this really mean, in 1Jn 5:5 and 1Jn 4:15,
To truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God is to overcome, 1 Jn 5:5 says so,
To overcome is to be born of God, true conversion, 1Jn 4:15
The only way we can obey is through unconditional love, for the Father and His Son Jesus Christ our Saviour, 1Jn 4:15 and 1Jn 5:5
The only way we can return this love to Them is to understand the great love they have for us. 1Jn 4:9
Through the study of God’s word, meditation and application of what we learn, plus much prayer, even unceasing prayer, we will know the love of God.
And what does the Bible say about the love of God?

1JN 4:9-10 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

You see friends we’re right back to where we started. That is, knowing the Son, why?
Because the Son is the manifestation of the Father, “Immanual” God with us. The love of the Father is in the Son and then passed on to us.
If you don’t know the Son, how can you know the Father?

Not just to prove a doctrine, not just a head knowledge, but a life changing experience.
Is it not the Father reconciling the world back to Himself? Eph 2:16-18 Col 1:20

And how can you know the Son if you don’t truly believe that He is the Son of God?
How can you know the Son if you believe in a trinity or three co-equals? If three co-equals are true then there is no real Son?

1 SM 384 Satan is determined that men shall not see the love of God, which led Him to give His only-begotten Son to save the lost race; for it is the goodness of God that leads men to repentance. Oh, how shall we succeed in setting forth before the world the deep, precious love of God? In no other way can we compass it than by exclaiming, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God" (1 John 3:1)! Let us say to sinners, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29)! By presenting Jesus as the representative of the Father, we shall be able to dispel the shadow that Satan has cast upon our pathway, in order that we shall not see the mercy and love of God's inexpressible love as manifested in Jesus Christ. 1Jn 4:9 & 5:5

5T 279 The harmony and unity of the church are the credentials that they present to the world that Jesus is the Son of God. Genuine conversion will ever lead to genuine love for Jesus and for all those for whom He died.

5T 740 All the paternal love which has come down from generation to generation through the channel of human hearts, all the springs of tenderness which have opened in the souls of men, are but as a tiny rill to the boundless ocean when compared with the infinite, exhaustless love of God. Tongue cannot utter it; pen cannot portray it. You may meditate upon it every day of your life; you may search the Scriptures diligently in order to understand it; you may summon every power and capability that God has given you, in the endeavor to comprehend the love and compassion of the heavenly Father; and yet there is an infinity beyond. You may study that love for ages; yet you can never fully comprehend the length and the breadth, the depth and the height, of the love of God in giving His Son to die for the world. Eternity itself can never fully reveal it. Yet as we study the Bible and meditate upon the life of Christ and the plan of redemption, these great themes will open to our understanding more and more. What a responsibility, we have no excuse.

Dear friends, but if even we, who know the truth about God and His Son, are still not overcoming, then we really need to go before the throne of grace, and with true humility repent and ask for forgiveness. Friend decide now, once and for always, that you will give your heart to the Lord and follow Him, come what may. And acknowledge that truly Jesus is the Son of God. He is the King of kings, the Creator of the universe, the Mighty God, the Redeemer, the Sinless and Spotless One, the Saviour of the world. And He humbled Himself, to suffer hunger, thirst, arduous labour, sleeplessness, ridicule, scorn and hypocrisy. He suffered beatings and pain we cannot imagine. He went through a humiliating death, carrying all the sins of the world, this, we will never understand. And never once was He resentful or hateful toward those who hated Him. All this He did by choice, only because He loves us. And who can know how much more there is to this great plan of salvation that will be the study of a lifetime, even eternity? After all He has done for us, He now asks us to put away sin. That we may be one with Him and live a righteous life ready to take part in the work of saving souls. And this He wants, only for our own good. Shall we live in sin any longer? Shall we not say, “ Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…..Beloved, now are we the sons of God,” 1 Jn 3:1-2
Let us all say yes, now we are the sons of God, once and for ever.
During the course of this study, we have had a brief look at who Jesus is, where He came from and what He did for us.

It is clear that Jesus is the only divine being in the universe, apart from His Father.

It is clear that the character of Jesus is spotless, selfless, pure and full of love for all his creation.

We saw His character tested under the pressure and stress of rebellion and war, not only in heaven but also on earth, Jesus was as firm as a rock, His commitment to give Himself as a sacrifice for us never wavered, not even in the slightest degree.

We have seen how Jesus was one with the Father, and that the Father did send Jesus, His Son down to earth. This was the Father’s ultimate manifestation of His love for us.

Now for us to be saved, we need to be partaking of the divine nature, (ie the nature of the Father and the Son) To be partaking of divinity, we must have Christ in us, as He is the only mediator between God and man. To have Christ in us, enables us to overcome, because Christ cannot sin. It also means that it is Christ, ever present in our minds and hearts, making the decisions, for us. If we sin, it is because we have chosen to let go of Christ. This is a voluntary decision that we conscientiously make.

With all that we know about the character and love of Jesus and what He has done for us, will we not keep Him ever present in our minds and hearts?

Now seriously friend, may I put a very strong challenge to you?

Before, you ever choose to sin again, think about what Jesus has done for you. And see for yourself, you will not sin. This is what He asks of us, that we allow Him free reign in our lives, and we allow Him to make the decisions for us, so that we will overcome the world with Him. Make this your daily habit.   Amen.
